Pittsburgh Concert Chorale to Perform Rachmaninoff's Vespers
Revered A Capella Composition To Be Performed Entirely In Russian

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA (January 15, 2012) — The Pittsburgh Concert Chorale (PCC) proudly presents "Breathtaking Beauty: Rachmaninoff's Vespers (All Night Vigil) Op. 37" as the second concert in its "Brilliant, Breathtaking, Bold" Season. The performances, led by Music Director Susan Medley, will take place on March 3 and 4.

Vespers is considered to be the finest of this composer's sacred works. The a cappella choral work, first performed in 1915, is comprised of texts taken from the Russian Orthodox all-night vigil ceremony. Joining the Chorale for this concert are mezzo-soprano Eva Rainforth and tenor Joseph Gaines.

"Rachmaninoff's Vespers is a stunning work. Hearing it live is a rare and powerful experience. We will be performing the work in Church Slavonic, which is both challenging and extremely rewarding. The singers have embraced the challenge of this choral masterpiece, and we are looking forward to sharing it with our audience," Medley states.

The March 3nd (8pm) performance will take place at Ingomar United Methodist Church, while the March 4th (4pm) performance will take place at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church.

These classical performances are the second of three concerts in the 2011-2012 Season. The season began with "Brilliant Brass: Holiday Music for Chorus and Brass" in December and will conclude with "Bold Broadway: The Best of the Great White Way" on May 4, 5 and 6. Each program will be presented at two locations in the North Hills: Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church and Ingomar United Methodist Church. The May 4 performance of the Pops concert will be presented at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mt. Lebanon as a St. Paul's Friends of Music Guild Concert Series Event.

Subscriptions are available at the discounted price of $34 for the March and May concerts (preferred seating).
